Nicaragua’s capital city of Managua has plenty of hotels and resorts for all budgets; Augusto C. Sandino Nicaragua’s main airport is located here and functions as the main gateway to the country, many people also enter Nicaragua by land via the border with southern neighbor and tourist hub, Costa Rica. The area around the active Masaya Volcano is also filled with lodging options and interesting excursions, from zip lining to horseback riding; other locations worth visiting are the colonial town of Leon home of the largest Cathedral in Central America, the mountainous coffee growing region of Matagalpa in the northern region, is the perfect place for birdwatching, as well as lake Nicaragua´s Ometepe island, two volcanos joined together by an exuberant stretch of land.
